Fiji will receive help from UH architecture students
A group of eight UH architecture graduate students will help design buildings for the island of Batiki in Fiji. According to Adi Asenaca Caucau, former minister of housing in Batiki, Batiki is the most economically depressed island in Fiji. Students will have the chance to see their building designs go from concept to completion. Each student has been assigned a specific building to design. Buildings that they’re working on include: a community center, a church, a school and a library. The designs will be built within the next two years and will benefit the 2,000 people of Batiki.

Students have opportunity to show-and-tell their work
An open mic forum will be held for students who are interested in sharing poetry, essays, mele (song or poem), oli (chant) and more. It will be held Nov. 5 at the Manele Building’s lawn facing Maunalua Bay and Koko Head. Students who are interested should contact Lisa Kanae at 734-9571 or email lkanae@hawaii.edu.

“Les Miserables” at Diamond Head Theatre
Diamond Head Theatre (DHT) will open its 2008-09 season with the Broadway hit musical “Les Miserables.”  According to Deena Ray, DHT executive director, DHT is the first non-professional theatre to secure the rights of “Les Miserables.”  John Rampage, DHT’s artistic director, is open to bringing in a guest performer or director with ties to the Broadway show to share knowledge of the production but at least 90 percent of the show will be cast locally.
