Fishing ban takes effect July 6

Fishing season closure for the so-called “Deep 7” bottomfish effective July 6 through Aug. 31.
The Deep 7 bottomfish includes onaga, opakapaka, ehu, kalekale, gindai, lehi and hapuupuu.
The ban covers all state waters and commercial and non-commercial fishers.
These particular species are managed cooperatively by the state and federal governments.
Maps of the closed state marine waters, both seasonal Deep 7 closure and bottomfish restricted fishing areas, can be viewed on the Department of Land and Natural Resources Web site:
