For the ninth year, Carl Hefner, International Education Week coordinator, with the support of faculty and administrators, will bring a variety of world cultures to KCC Nov. 13 and Nov. 16 to 19.
"In a world where challenges transcend borders, education is essential for making the world more peaceful and more prosperous," Hefner said. "American students can better understand global issues by learning other languages and experiencing other cultures first-hand."
International Education Week is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and The U.S. Department of Education. IEW is celebrated nationwide each year in November.
This event gives students the opportunity to broaden their awareness of the world and its many cultures.
"It (IEW) highlights the critical role of education in our efforts to secure a bright future based on international partnership and understanding," Hefner said.
IEW is a prequel to the International Festival that takes place in the spring. While the International Festival is heavy on ethnomusicology and culture, IEW focuses on cultural lectures and offers a taste of many cultures.
This year, there are more than 20 different events going on during IEW. See bottom of page for full schedule of events.
Events are being hosted by faculty members, members of the community and student clubs.
"Americans across our country and people around the world are touched by international education in positive ways," Hefner said. "We should all be proud to celebrate International Education Week."
