Have you ever decided to go to a beach only to find that the beach and its waters are infested with tourists? No place to sit? No room to catch any waves without hitting someone? You need to get yourself out of there and to a place secluded and unknown to most people - and tourists.
Here's my list of Top 10 not-so-crowded beaches:
10. Ala Moana Beach Park (Bowls)
It may still be within the area of tourist zone, and yes, you'll see tourists there, but not as many as in Waik?k?. Sometimes, depending on the day, those killer waves will have those tourists running for their lives.
9. Waiman?lo
A beach with calm waters with a somewhat gusty wind is a perfect place to picnic or take a nice swim. You will find some tourists here and there, but it won't be as bad as most town beaches.
8. Sand Island
Hidden on our busy industrial island holds a calm and soft windy beach. It is a perfect place to wade or swim around in the calm waters. You can also watch the sun set or the ships sail by.
7. Wai'alae Beach Park
No, there are no waves here, but you'll find a beach where you can take a nice stroll or a quick swim without the worry of tourists ruining the day.
6. Sandy's Beach
Past Hawai'i Kai and Hanauma Bay lies a long strip of sand with gusty winds and satisfying swells. Take your kite if you want but body- and boogie-boarding is the way to go here.
5. Waimea Bay
Though it can be quite busy sometimes, especially in the winter months, Waimea has the iconic tall rocks for you to jump off and the surf that will give you a rush. Beware of rocks and harsh waves!
4. Kailua Beach Park
Oh, how much must I emphasize: this place is windy! So it's no surprise this is a place where you can go windsurfing or kiteboarding. But when it's calm, these waters allow a perfect environment to go kayaking or paddle boarding or even a nice simple swim.
3. Yokohama Bay
Beware: there are no lifeguards at this beach, but that makes it all the more fun, right? There are a few rocky shorelines like Waimea for you to jump into the water. The surf is very spontaneous, but when the waves are good, they are good. Fast and unforgiving, so watch out!
2. La'ie Beach
For all you surfers and boogie boarders who want a definite no-tourist-infested beach. This place will be worth the one-to-two-hour drive from town. The swells are always rushing and constant so you'll never be bored having to wait for the next batch of waves to come. Again, no lifeguards here.
1. M?laekahana
Just a little more past La'ie Beach, you'll find a Hanauma Bay equivalent - but with no tourists. The swells are up and down depending on the tide. A great place to go surfing and boogie boarding. Not only that, there is a small island offshore - Goat Island - where you can reach via reef-walking, snorkeling or kayaking. You'll find assortments of fish swimming around and a great place to go fishing. No lifeguards here as well.
